Not Typical

It’s November!! And in November what do you see a lot of????

“Thankful” posts.

I will admit, I did think about making this month’s blog series a Thankful Series, but I like to buck the norm. I don’t like to always do as everyone else does.

I think that is part of the reason my novels take a while to write. I don’t want to give my reader the predictable. I want to go against the norm and have them thinking and wondering just a little more than usual. That’s why in Emma’s Journey, I don’t introduce my reader to the main male character until chapter five, while other books have you met them right away. I also don’t give you clarity about one of his relationships in the book for a long while because I want you wondering about them. Needing to know more means my readers will read more and finish the book!

I’m currently bucking the system in another way. I’ve only ever been self or hybrid published. My dream has been to be traditionally published. That’s why my newest book is taking a little longer. That’s why I have an editor I meet with who works in the traditional industry. That’s why I’m giving in just enough to give the traditional publisher what they want, and what they want is typical stuff. But, I’m still bucking the norm and adding my own little flare. The Heart of Alpine will be changing a lot of things for me, but it won’t change my desire to not be predictable.

While I’m not typical in my author life, I’m also not typical in personal life. Yes, the biggest things that makes me not a typical, predictable person, is my writing career. but there are other things about me that would shock people.

For example, I’m a member of a motorcycle ministry. No, I don’t have a bike…yet. One of my besties and her husband run the ministry. They are good Christian people. I believe in what they are doing and I want to help them in every way I can.

Most people look at me and don’t believe I belong to that ministry. It’s sad how quickly we typecast others. Motorcycle groups are not really thought as being godly, Christian people. I love my group. They are all amazing people doing what they believe in. Who cares if they ride a bike!

Here’s a little bit more about me before I go….our ministry friends have all asked if I’ll ride with my husband when he gets his bike…..Nah man! I’ll be bucking the norm again and riding my own!
