This week, I’m going to focus on being thankful for family.
I love my parents, my brother, my sister, my nieces, my nephews, my husband and our kids. I love all my family and would do anything for any of them. I’ve written a lot about them. This blog doesn’t focus on the family I have by blood, but by choice.
As you may remember, last December I wrote a blog series decidated to the motorcycle ministry I’m in. I focused on our mission and who we were. I wrote briefly on what they meant to me, but I didn’t say how I truly feel about them.
We are a mixture of people with different backgrounds and talents. Our common goal, what brings us together, is the desire to love and share our faith with others. We operate based on Luke 10:27, (“He answered, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and, Love your neighbor as yourself.”) where, through the parable of the good Samaritan, Christ teaches that above all else, we are to love others.
Love.
There is a word I have struggled with for a while. How do you love yourself let alone others? How do you show love to others? I used to struggle with expressing love to others because I couldn’t genuinely say I felt I loved them.
Through the ministry, I am learning there are multiple forms of love. There is a silent love that is just understood. There is a servicable love that will be there for you at all times. There is a familial love that truly makes us all feel as though we are brothers and sisters. There is a love of faith that has the strength to carry us when we doubt ourselves.
I have not been around my ministry family consistantly the last few weeks because of many things going on. Today was my first day back at Bible Study in probably a month and I found myself realizing that had missed it more than I knew. I missed the commardary that takes place within our group. I missed the way we truly operate like a family. We were singing when I got up to take the picture at the top of this blog. It wasn’t until that moment that I knew what I would write about for this blog. I have many things to be thankful for, but I try to make my blogs something my readers can relate to, or be empowered by, or both.
Saying I am thankful for my family is a no brainer. Knowing I’m thankful for my ministry family is entirely different.
