Today, we celebrated my daughter and my niece as they both accomplished major milestones in their lives. My niece now has her bachelor’s and my daughter has her master’s. I am super proud of both of them!!!
In today’s society of go go go and relying way too heavily on the internet, we seem to lose sight of some very important things.
When was the last time you celebrated someone? Truly celebrated. As in, you physically went out of your way to celebrate someone. You showed up, hugged them, loved them, and maybe even gave them a gift. Most of the time, we just send a congrats emoji and call it a day.
Technology is taking away so much from us in the way of human interaction. We need to connect with people in a more authentic face to face way. You know, like people did before television. We need to be meeting others for dinner more. We need to have family gatherings more. We need to make a greater effort for true human interaction. If we continue to rely on technology and social media to fill the things we need (affirmation, celebration, acknowledgement), we are not giving our spirit the true joy it needs to thrive within us.
You see, celebration brings about joy, and joy brings about love, and love brings about a peace inside us. This peace is part of what makes us whole. When we feel peaceful, we find ourselves to be more content and happier. We cannot get this peace through an artificial creation. It has to be authentic, true, and raw.
This Christmas season, I challenge you to find someone to celebrate. Doesn’t have to be anything big, but put your phone down and truly celebrate who they are to you, what they mean to you, or something they have done. There is joy waiting within the celebration.
