Season of Joy

‘Tis the season!!!!!

I love, love, love this time of year!!! While this is the time of year we get with love ones to celebrate each other, this time of year has something bigger going on behind the scenes.

While we are celebrating Christmas, the seasons are changing scenes behind the curtain. Fall is leaving the stage and Winter is positioning itself, waiting for it’s curtain call. Fall drifts off into a deep sleep while it waits for it’s stage cue three seasons from now. Winter, though cold and brutal, is undergoing a transformation while it stands center stage giving it’s grand performance.

We are like Fall and Winter. Our bodies, heart, minds, and spirits all wait in the wings for their cue.

Thanks to all the treats and eats between Halloween and Christmas, our bodies tend to undergo a physical change of getting a little bigger and a little rounder. It’s too easy to indulge and forget the healthy journey we are on.

Our hearts can go slightly dormant during this time as well. When life is rush, rush, rush, it’s easy to succumb to the stress of the busyness and allow our hearts to darken a little. Like the White Rabbit, we have no time to stop and care about someone or something else. We remember those who aren’t here to celebrate and our hearts break all over again.

Our minds get bogged down during this time of year with everything we have to do to prepare for Christmas and the end of the year. Numbers rule our mind as we try to determine the gifts we can and cannot buy. The stress of getting the newest, best thing consumes our minds creating an ugly spirit within us.

That’s not the only reason our spirit gets ugly. This time of year tends to make us take a look at ourselves as we go backwards to see what we have accomplished. For some, the year has been amazing. For others, the year brought on loss or depression or something we can’t shake off our spirit.

It is so easy to fall like the leaves do from the trees at this time of year. Darkness comes to the skies sooner now. The cold air wraps around us daily. It would be so easy to grab a warm blanket and hibernate on the couch, but we can’t live like that.

We have to find the joy of this unique time of year. We have to allow the old, ugly, negative things to fall off of us as we prepare to blossom in the Spring. How do we do this? Here is some insight from my journey this year.

I made a decision to live a healthier lifestyle, thus giving me a healthier, smaller, curvier body. I can give into all the sweet temptation happening between the seasons, but I choose to celebrate my achievements. I choose to continue my healthy path rather than cause my body to go into an ugly state of repulsion if I surrender to all the treats. I am joyful for where my health and my body are today. I want to continue the journey, not sabotage it with gluttony.

My heart is happier than it’s been in a while. My life is full of wonderful, positive things. I am reminded everyday that I am loved. I am full of joy for that love and for the ability to love others.

My mind can be a minefield sometimes! It is easy for me to fall down a rabbit hole and forget to take the ladder with me. My mind is the first place where doubt about myself occurs. Its’s where all the evil, negative voices speak. It is with joy that I praise my Creator for making me. It is with joy that I trust him with my thoughts and my words.

My spirit has come a long way this year. I was silent about my faith for a while, but my spirit has been helping me to grow and not be ashamed of who I am anymore. My spirit has helped me to speak and act as I should. My spirit fills me with the joy I need to have a positive outlook on my life journey.

It is because of joy, I know I will be okay as one part of me falls away with the leaves to prepare for the new things beginning inside of me. I can feel the roots of something spectacular being created within me. I am joyfully eager to see what blooms according to my purpose in the Spring.

If you are struggling to find the joy of the season, look for the one thing that makes you happy. Write about it. Boast about it. Pray about it. Find your joy. Find your peace.
