In our complex world today, few things are simple.
Samaritans In Christ Motorcycle Ministry has a beautifully designed patch our wear on our leather vest. Surrounding the cross are seven letters that represent our mission as a ministry.
The first and, possibly, the most important letter is F. F stands for Faith. If we do not have faith in our Creator, how do we have a ministry at all?
Faith is complex because it is something you have to do blindly. You have to trust that your heart is leading you in the right direction and have faith in the outcome of it all. In a world full of so many different views, we have to have faith that our Creator will keep us strong in Spirit, in mind, and in love for others.
Like the world, our group is complex because all of us come from a different walk of life. We all have our good and bad things that can both grow and hurt the ministry. Yet, when we are together, we are one in faith.
I realized this yesterday when we were together discussing the weekly lesson. Though we interpret differently, we all had the same ideas, the same understanding of what our goal as a human is to be. Our faith in what we do and why we do it because we understand that, first, you must have faith.
There are also two S’s on the circle surrounding the cross on the patch. The first S stands for Service. Having so many life stories represented in our group, the act of service comes fairly easy. Some of us know what it means to stand in a food line when we don’t have money for groceries. Some of us understand the struggle to pay bills and wondering how exactly we will do it.
When one of us hears of another ministry, or one of our own doing a toy drive, or feeding the homeless, we don’t hesitate to say we will be there to help you. We have gone to the hospital and prayed for family members outside of ICUs. We hear a need and we go. We understand that a way loving one another is to help one another whether we know the people we are helping or not.
In our complex world today, few things are simple. It is the complexity of faith that makes service simple.
